Ophthalmic / Spectacle Lenses in Essex & London

key benefits to remember

  • No cleaning
  • Wear them for a day and then throw away
  • Great for travelling as there are no solutions to pack
Single Vision Lenses

For most people, a visit to the opticians begins with an appointment to see one of the optometrists for what is often called a "Sight Test". However, at Belson & Sons we prefer the term "Standard Eye Examination".

In addition to our Standard Eye Examination, we offer a number of additional services.

Multifocal Lenses

Multifocal Lenses are dispensed when one pair of spectacles can no longer provide you with clear vision at all distances. You have a choice of bifocal lenses, with a visible line on the lens, or varifocal lenses which have no visible line, but gradually change in power as the eyes move down the lens.

key benefits to remember

  • Multifocal Lenses are made with multiple prescriptions that are built into a single lens
  • Multifocal or varifocal contact lenses can help you easily switch between prescriptions

key benefits to remember

  • Darken and lighten according to UV and light exposure
  • Beneficial to children to protect their eyes from UV rays
Photochromic Lenses

Photochromic Lenses are able to darken and lighten according to UV and light exposure, ie in bright sunlight. There is even a variation available now that will darken behind a car windscreen, and darkens better in hot temperatures. There is also considerable evidence now that children would benefit from wearing photochromic lenses to protect their eyes from increasing levels of UV radiation, which may help to prevent cataracts and macular disease in later life.

we also provide...

Anti-reflection and
Hard Coatings

These can be applied to most lenses to prevent uncomfortable glare that can be experienced when using computer screens, overhead fluorescent lights, and particularly oncoming car head lights at night. As plastic lenses are softer than glass, a hard coat is recommended to help prevent the lighter, everyday scratches that can build up. However, nothing is completely scratch-proof.

lens materials

All lenses are available in both plastic, safety plastic and glass. Higher density materials are also available to produce thinner and lighter lenses for those with higher prescriptions.

here to help

We provide a sympathetic service to small children (including infants — we are happy to see children at any age), the elderly and those with special educational needs. We provide a Domiciliary (Home Visit) Eye Examination Service under contract to the NHS for patients who are unable to attend one of our practices without substantial assistance.

In addition to our Standard Eye Examination, we offer a number of additional services.

Great friendly staff, expert services, completely satisfied with the whole experience and it's nice not to be rushed in and out like the big chain stores. Highly recommended.
First class professional service, all the staff are very courteous and helpful. Would heartily recommend Belson & Sons to all who expect the best in expertise and care.
I have been using Belson & Sons for around 30+ years, the staff have always been polite, friendly and courteous; the opticians are very professional and thorough.
I wouldn't go anywhere else. I have been going to Belson & Sons opticians for 21 years and I would recommend them to anyone who wants to see an optician.
I have been using Belson & Sons Pitsea branch for years now and would not dream of changing. The examination is always thorough and the personal service is exceptional.
I was always made to feel welcome, and felt as if every attention was being given to the care of my eyesight, unlike my (limited) experiences with some of the national chain opticians.
